How It Works

Each course's grade is converted to grade points, multiplied by its credit hours, and the results are summed and divided by total credit hours — so higher-credit courses influence the final GPA more than lower-credit ones.

Formula

GPA = Σ(credit hours × grade points) ÷ Σ(credit hours), using the standard mapping where A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0 and F = 0.0, with plus/minus grades adjusted by 0.3.

Example

A student with a 4-credit A (4.0) and a 3-credit B+ (3.3) has a GPA of (4×4.0 + 3×3.3) ÷ 7 ≈ 3.7.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grading scale does this calculator use?

It uses the standard US 4.0 scale with plus/minus adjustments (A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, and so on). Some schools use different scales, so treat the result as an estimate if yours differs.

Does adding a low-credit course affect my GPA much?

Less than a high-credit course would, since each course is weighted by its credit hours in the calculation.
