Pressure & Density Calculator

Choose which variable to solve for, enter the other three values, and calculate the hydrostatic pressure caused by a column of fluid.

How It Works

This calculates hydrostatic pressure — the pressure caused by the weight of a fluid column above a given depth. It applies specifically to fluids at rest under gravity, not as a universal relationship between pressure and density in every physical situation.

Formula

P = ρ × g × h, where P is pressure, ρ is fluid density, g is gravitational acceleration, and h is height/depth of the fluid column.

Example

Water (density 1000 kg/m³) at a depth of 10 meters, under standard gravity, exerts a pressure of approximately 98.07 kPa.

Frequently Asked Questions

What value of gravity does this use by default?
Standard gravitational acceleration, 9.80665 m/s², though you can change it for other planets or contexts.
Does this include atmospheric pressure?
No, this calculates only the additional pressure from the fluid column itself. Add atmospheric pressure separately if you need total (absolute) pressure.
