FD Calculator
Enter your deposit amount, interest rate, investment period and compounding frequency to calculate your Fixed Deposit (FD) maturity amount.
The amount you want to deposit.
Annual interest rate.
Investment Period
How often the interest is added to your deposit.
How It Works
Your deposit grows through compound interest, added back to the balance at the frequency you choose (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly) — more frequent compounding earns slightly more over the same term. Tax, if applicable, is calculated on the interest you earn, never on your original deposit.
Formula
Maturity Amount = Deposit × (1 + Interest Rate / n)^(n × Investment Period), where n is the number of compounding periods per year.
Example
A deposit of 100,000 at 7% annual interest, compounded quarterly, over 5 years grows to a maturity amount of roughly 141,478.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How is FD interest calculated?
- FD interest is compound interest: it's calculated on your deposit plus any interest already added back to the balance, at the compounding frequency you choose (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly).
- Does tax reduce my original deposit?
- No. Tax is calculated only on the interest you earn — your original deposit amount is never taxed.
- What is the Inflation-Adjusted Value?
- It's an estimate of how much your maturity amount would be worth in today's purchasing power, after accounting for the inflation rate you enter — useful for understanding your real return, not just the nominal amount.
- Which compounding frequency gives the highest return?
- For the same nominal interest rate, more frequent compounding (monthly) earns slightly more than less frequent compounding (yearly), since interest starts earning its own interest sooner.
