Fuel Consumption Converter
Enter a fuel consumption figure in either L/100km or MPG (US) to convert it to the other unit.
L/100km MPG (US)
How It Works
Unlike most unit pairs, L/100km and MPG measure fuel efficiency in opposite directions (volume per distance vs. distance per volume), so converting between them is a reciprocal relationship rather than a simple multiplication.
Formula
MPG (US) = 235.214583 ÷ L/100km, and L/100km = 235.214583 ÷ MPG (US).
Example
A car using 8 L/100km gets approximately 29.4 MPG (US).
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why isn't this a simple multiplication like other converters?
- L/100km measures how much fuel is used over a fixed distance, while MPG measures how far you travel per unit of fuel — opposite directions, so the relationship between them is an inverse (reciprocal), not linear.
- Is this US or UK gallons?
- US gallons. A UK (imperial) gallon is larger, so UK MPG figures aren't directly comparable to this result.
